The Benefits and Uses of Acupressure

Image
Acupressure is often called acupuncture without the needles. Instead of needles, acupressure involves the application of manual pressure (usually with the fingertips) to specific points on the body.According the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, invisible pathways of energy called meridians flow within the body. At least 14 meridians are thought to connect our organs with other parts of the body. Acupuncture and acupressure points lie along those meridians. If the flow of energy (also called "chi" or "qi") is blocked at any point on a meridian, it's thought to cause various symptoms and health conditions anywhere along the meridian. That's why a practitioner may apply pressure to an acupressure point on the foot to relieve a headache. Uses Most people try acupressure for the first time to manage symptoms of a condition, such as: Cancer-related fatigue and other forms of fatigue Insomnia Headache Menstrual cramps Motion sickness Muscle tension and pa

Channelising Stress For Better Health

Image
The best way to handle stress is different for each person. Look for your body’s warning signs, such as having a headache, grinding your teeth, clenching your jaw or feeling frustrated. And know your stress triggers, such as hunger, tiredness, arguments with your family or friends, certain times of day with your children, or deadlines. Then, work on de-stressing. The good news is that plenty of simple (and free) stress-busting techniques are available: Establish regular times for when you eat, sleep, read, exercise, grocery shop and so on. And try to set up a routine for your household, so everyone knows what is happening and when. Look after your health, with healthy food, regular exercise and calm times in your day. And avoid using alcohol and other drugs to get through your day. Be aware of thoughts that don’t help. Saying to yourself that you can’t cope, or don’t have enough time, or feel exhausted, for example, doesn’t help. Instead, try talking yourself through a tough situation:

How Does Nature Impact Our Wellbeing?

Image
Research reveals that environments can increase or reduce our stress, which in turn impacts our bodies. What you are seeing, hearing, experiencing at any moment is changing not only your mood, but how your nervous, endocrine, and immune systems are working. The stress of an unpleasant environment can cause you to feel anxious, or sad, or helpless. This in turn elevates your blood pressure, heart rate, and muscle tension and suppresses your immune system. A pleasing environment reverses that. And regardless of age or culture, humans find nature pleasing. In one study cited in the book Healing Gardens, researchers found that more than two-thirds of people choose a natural setting to retreat to when stressed.    Nature heals Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle te

Self-care: 4 ways to nourish body and soul

Image
4 things to help revive and nourish body and soul Be physically active . Exercise busts stress, boosts the mood, and elevates our energy level, not to mention the heart health benefits. Believe it or not, you can exercise just about anywhere, anytime. It doesn’t have to be at the gym. It doesn’t have to be a scheduled class. And it doesn’t have to be more than a few minutes a day. All activity counts. I encourage patients to think of an activity that they enjoy.  Anything . Think about how that enjoyable activity can fit into your life: maybe you can ride your bike to work, or take your kids on an easy hike, or get the whole family to rake leaves with you. Let’s brainstorm about activities that will fit into your life: Maybe make your next meeting a walking one, or take a brisk walk at lunchtime. Try a few minutes on the exercise bike in the kitchen, or dancing around your living room in your socks. On my very busy days, I make sure I take the stairs whenever I have the option. I par

Benefits of ayurveda over allopathy

Image
Nature of treatment: Ayurveda is associated with finding the root of the disease and then aims to completely eradicate it. This science of medical treatment is fully aware of the body system and it does not suppress the disturbing element which causes the disease. It aims at searching the origin of the disease and then cures it. The cure is permanent. But in allopathic treatment the disease is not cured permanently and it provides only instant relief to the patients by destroying the disease causing organism. Medicines used: The Ayurvedic treatment includes the use of natural herbs which adds on to the benefits of the Ayurvedic products. Allopathic treatment includes the use of antidotes prepared synthetically from chemicals which might damage your immunity system. Benefits of Ayurvedic Products over Allopathic products :- The main benefit of the Ayurvedic treatment is that it has no side effects because the Ayurvedic products are prepared by using the essence of fruits, spices, veget
